In this class you will learn about shapes, proportions, values and the use of line while focusing on the portrait. You will learn to draw through the use of the mirror and eventually we will progress to working with photo. We will study color and look at techniques of historical artists as well as contemporary. Bring a sketchbook or folder to keep notes in.

This class is designed to emphasize the importance of staying true to your own personal expression, while examining the finer points of photography. We will meet every other week after working individually at home on a specific assignment that will ask students to capture a certain topic on film. We will discuss the results of our work in depth: composition, technique, creativity and study great masters who did work related to our subject in order to improve skills. You will need to own a camera (any type) and a printer or a USB key. Beginners or more advanced are welcome.

In this class we will explore techniques that great still-life artists used. We will begin with simple still-life techniques, looking at shapes and then progress to more difficult studies. We will look at how to represent textures and how to work with various materials. We will learn about composition and how to start thinking about it when creating your very own artwork. Bring a sketchbook or folder to keep notes in.

This class will introduce students to the basics of drawing and will expose them to examples of historical and contemporary artists. Using a variety of drawing materials, students will begin to understand principles of light and basic drawing techniques. We will begin by looking at shapes and will go on to explore landscapes, still life and portrait. For the final project, each student will produce a large drawing of a subject of their choice and produce it through a medium they wish to gain a better understanding of.
Figure Drawing and Painting

Drawing Material included (not painting) This ten weeks course will consist of two 5 week poses in which the model will assume the same position for each class, allowing students to execute finished drawings or paintings. Instruction will consist of one-on-one coaching if students need it. Brief group demonstrations will be given how to prepare a canvas and use different type of materials. Focus during the class will be on understanding anatomy, proportions and composition. Examples of historical and Contemporary Artists will be given. Optional homework assignments can be provided with follow-up assessment. This course will enable students to better analyze human form. The long sessions will encourage maximum development and will allow students to develop at their own pace.
